Off the bat, the show is clearly pushing a few narratives: 1. The welfare system in the U.S. sucks 2. Being a single mom is hard as fuck 3. Poverty can happen to anyone, even white people (mind-blowing, I know). However, it deals with these issues in a way that left me a bit confused.
